Portico Solar Parasol
The Portico Solar Parasol is a 9.8-foot square canopy on a 3.5-inch aluminium column, with a solar-charged LED ring set into the hub and a USB-C outlet on the column. One rotary handle retracts the canopy down inside the column and pushes it back out again, so closed it reads as a plain post rather than a bundled umbrella. It carries its own battery, so there is no cord to run across the terrace and no outdoor socket to find. It is not a wind-rated commercial parasol, and it is not built to be left open in a storm.

Three jobs. One corner of the terrace.
Shade in the afternoon, light after dark, and a place to charge a phone without running a cord back into the house. Most parasols do the first one and stop.

01 · BY DAY
Shade that covers a table
A 9.8-foot square throws a square shadow, so a rectangular table actually fits under it rather than half of it.

02 · AFTER DARK
Light without a lamp post
The LED ring sits in the hub and throws light up into the canopy, so the fabric diffuses it instead of a bulb glaring at the table.

03 · AND POWER
And it charges your phone
A weather-capped USB-C outlet on the column runs off the same battery, so a phone charges where you are sitting.
Open, it’s a room.
Closed, it’s a column.
One rotary handle draws the ribs down inside the 3.5-inch column and pushes them back out again. Closed, there is no bundled fabric strapped to a pole — just a post you can walk past.
OPEN
9.8 ft across, 7 ft 2 in of clearance
RETRACTING
Panels fold upward as they draw into the post
RETRACTED
A 3.5-inch post. Nothing to trip over.
- 01Open — 9.8 ft across, 7 ft 2 in of clearance underneath.
- 02Retracting — panels fold upward as they draw into the post.
- 03Retracted — a 3.5-inch post. Nothing to trip over.
One-handed
The handle turns rather than cranks, so it takes one hand and no ladder.
Nothing exposed
Retracted, the fabric sits inside the column, out of the weather and out of the light.
No cover needed
Because there is nothing bundled on the outside, there is no zip-up bag to lose.
Charge all day.
Runs all evening.
The solar ring sits in the base where it gets the afternoon, and the battery lives inside the column. No cord across the terrace, no outdoor socket to find, nothing to plug in when the light goes.

BEFORE YOU BUY
Not a wind-rated commercial parasol, and not built to be left open in a storm. Retract it when you go inside.
What we like, and what to know
It retracts instead of bundling
One rotary handle draws the ribs down inside the column. Closed, there is no gathered fabric strapped to a pole and no zip-up bag to lose.
It is not wind-rated
Ninety-seven square feet of canopy is a sail. The base holds it steady in a breeze; a gust is another matter. Retract it when you go inside.
Light lands on the table
The ring sits inside the hub and throws light up into the canopy, so the fabric diffuses it rather than a bulb glaring at eye level.
One long, awkward box
Eight feet six inches, with a steel base plate inside it. Measure your stairwell or your lift before you order a fourth-floor delivery, and find a second pair of hands.
No cord across the terrace
A solar ring in the base feeds a battery in the column. Nothing to plug in, no outdoor socket to find, nothing to carry in at the end of the night.
The LED is sealed in
The ring is integrated into the hub against the weather, so it is not user-replaceable. Within the warranty period we replace the hub assembly.
Square canopy, square table
A true 9.8-foot square, not a 9-foot octagon measured across the diagonal, so a rectangular table actually fits underneath it.

It goes away
The canopy draws down inside the column, top-down, and locks. Closed, it reads as a plain post rather than a bundled umbrella — and the light in the hub still works, so the parasol you stow at the end of the afternoon is the lamp you leave on after dark.
